Barry Hanover, Ph.D.

Director

Barry has over 35 years of experience in senior-level technical and business management. He is currently an active member of the Park City Angels and is an active investor in many Utah-based start-ups. He serves as a board member of Veritract Inc. and iVeena Delivery Systems, Inc. Recent start-up participation includes two years as a member of the management team of PenBlade, Inc., serving as CEO and then COO until September 2015.

He served as Chief Operating Officer of TechniScan, Inc. until October 2010. In that position he managed the development of a Whole Breast Ultrasound (WBU™) imaging system to aid in early detection of cancer. WBU™ systems have been tested at the Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and in Freiburg, Germany.

Barry served previously as the Vice-President of Surgery Engineering for GE OEC Medical Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Medical Systems. In this position he was responsible for management of its international, multidisciplinary product development team of approximately 150 members. Prior to its acquisition by GE in 1999, Mr. Hanover was OEC’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer. OEC Medical Systems was the world market leader in mobile digital x-ray imaging systems and one of Fortune magazine’s 200 most successful small companies.

Prior to his involvement at OEC, Barry was Vice-President of Technical Development and a member of the Board of Directors of Sarcos, Incorporated. Sarcos was founded by Dr. Stephen C. Jacobsen in 1988 to develop a wide variety of products including drug delivery and robotic systems. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Hanover was responsible, as General Manager of Animate Systems, Inc, a division of Sarcos, Inc., for the initial start-up of a manufacturing facility that successfully delivered the humanoid robots for the key attractions at Euro Disneyland.

Barry is listed as an inventor on 26 U.S. Patents in the fields of drug delivery systems, dialysis systems and x-ray and ultrasound imaging systems. Barry holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering from both Tufts University (Summa Cum Laude) and the University of Utah.
